Come Join the fun! The Spirit of St. Louis Samoyed Club was founded in 1979 as a Missouri not-for-profit club. The Club's purpose is to work for the benefit of our breed, to educate the Samoyed-owning public, and most importantly to have fun with our dogs!
The success of our club is diversity. Our members consist of both show dog owners as well as pet owners. Collectively, our members breed Samoyeds, participate in dog shows (including obedience and conformation), visit hospitals and nursing homes, and participate in such events as agility, herding, tracking, weight-pulling, sledding, carting, and backpacking. Our club was the first club in St. Louis to host the American Temperament Test Society (ATTS) temperament test in 1981, which has become an annual tradition. Our members have taught obedience and conformation classes, edited the Samoyed Club of America (SCA) bulletin, served on the SCA board, and served on the board of the ATTS. Our members include show ring judges and members experienced in Search Rescue. Other members of our club helped found Purebred Rescue in St. Louis, an organization dedicated to finding adoptive homes for displaced, abandoned, abused, neglected, and homeless purebred dogs. Many of these members are active in Samoyed Rescue.
When the Spirit of St. Louis Samoyed Club started the Spirit of St. Louis Canine Games in 1996, it was with the purpose of introducing dogs and their owners to a wide variety of canine sports. What began as a simple club fundraiser has since grown to serve dog owners and enthusiasts throughout the greater St. Louis area. With over 1500 event tickets sold each year, the annual Canine Games appeals to dogs and owners with a broad spectrum of experience.
Our club is always interested in recruiting new members. Our club usually meets the second Monday of each month and also publishes a quarterly newsletter. If you own a Samoyed or are interested in learning more about this fascinating, intelligent, and loyal breed, please contact us.
